On Sunday, general manager Sandy Alderson admitted he had spoken to Walker’s agents the previous day and soon planned to chat with the veteran second baseman on the topic of an extension.

Walker accepted the Mets’ qualifying offer last offseason worth $17.2 million for 2017. Last year he was among the Mets’ most productive offensive players before undergoing September surgery for a herniated disk in his back.
