SEA ISLE CITY — Last year, those participating in the Sea Isle City Polar Bear Plunge faced bitter cold temperatures. This year, the plungers had it a little easier with mostly sunny skies and approximately 60-degree weather Saturday afternoon.

But people don’t just come to run wildly into the ocean; at this polar plunge, they also come to party at this weekend-long event.

Huge tents are set up along the La Costa Complex on the corner of John F. Kennedy Boulevard and Landis Avenue. The booming sound of bands — such as FunZaLuv and The Insiders — can be heard into the wee hours of the night.

On Sunday, there is the Mike’s Seafood Polar Bear Walk/Run For Autism for those who want to join in on the festivities but may not want to jump into the ocean in the middle of winter. The 5K run or 1-mile walk, benefiting Autism Speaks, Special Services schools, Autism support groups, and families of special needs children, begins at noon.
