The mastermind behind the 1993 World Trade Center bombing has died in federal prison in North Carolina.

The death of Egyptian-born Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman, 78, also known as the “the blind sheikh,” was confirmed by his daughter, Asmaa Abdel-Rahman, who tweeted in Arabic: “Allah has taken the soul of Sheikh Omar.”

Abdel-Rahman had served more than 20 years of a life sentence for the 1993 World Trade Center bombing which killed six people.
