California Highway Patrol officials are telling motorists to avoid the 5 Freeway at Sheldon Street in Sun Valley in both north and south directions as flooding completely stopped traffic in all lanes on Friday.

“We’re trying to close the entire 5,” said CHP Officer Stephan Brandt, who advised motorists to avoid the 5 between the 118 and 134 freeways.

The incident was reported at 2:11 p.m. Friday on the freeway as two vehicles were stuck because of flooded conditions.

“Some reports say it has 2 and 1/2 feet of water,” Brandt said. “There’s flooding inside people’s vehicles. People are calling hysterically. It’s pretty chaotic.

“There is water in all lanes there. It seems to be the hot spot in L.A.”
