Internationally known mini-burger chain, Burgerim, is opening another Orange County outlet later this year.

The Tel Aviv-born burger concept, which allows customers to build their own mini-burgers from a variety of patty choices, has more than 160 locations around the globe. Last year, it launched an aggressive franchise growth plan in the United States. It has Southern California locations in Victorville, Montclair and Hollywood, as well as locations in Texas and Tenessee. The Orange restaurant, in the vacant Pat & Oscar’s space across from the MainPlace in Santa Ana, is expected to open in May.

Restaurants sell custom mini burgers made with 2.8 ounce patties. They don’t like to call them sliders, because that term offer a “connotation of being tiny and low-quality,” said Ashley Lindley Shaffer, Burgerim’s Chief Marketing Officer.

“Guests are often surprised by the size of our 2.8-ounce gourmet mini burgers. They truly are a handful,” Shaffer said.

In Orange, diners will be able to build their own burgers from 10 patties choices including dry aged beef, lamb, chorizo, turkey, Wagyu (for an extra buck) and salmon. The streamlined menu includes combo choices of two, three or 16 mini burgers. A duo box comes with two mini burgers, fries and a soda for $9.95. The menu also features salads and a few traditional sandwiches.

Other Southern California locations are planned for Torrance, Long Beach, Azusa, West Hollywood, Los Angeles and Glendale, according to the company’s website. A Burgerim, which means “many burgers” in Hebrew, opened this week in Newbury Park.

Shaffer said the chain, which was founded in 2008, is projecting to have more than 200 locations open in the U.S. by the end of the year. “We will have 2-5 stores opening weekly over the first 6 months of 2017 alone,” Shaffer said. “Naturally, we are thrilled that we are competing with some of the most well-known restaurants for the title of fastest growing chain in America.”

The Orange location is at 763 S. Main St.
