SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The family of a 17-year-old Brush High School hockey player who died suddenly has announced funeral arrangements for the teen.

The wake for Alec Kornet will be held from 2-7 p.m. Sunday at the DeJohn-Flynn-Mylott funeral home in Willoughby Hills, 28890 Chardon Road. The family will hold a private funeral service for Alec at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the Kornet family asks for donations to be sent to a GoFundMe account, “The Alec Kornet Memorial Fund.”

Alec played hockey, baseball and soccer and was a member of the band at Brush High School. He had trouble breathing and collapsed during a Tuesday night hockey practice at the Cleveland Heights Recreational Pavilion on Monticello Boulevard.

He died after paramedics took him to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office said.

Alec had not suffered any injuries or taken any serious hits recently, his father Scott Kornet told cleveland.com Wednesday.
