Ben Affleck is no longer directing “The Batman,” and he reportedly might quit being Batman all together. Initially, comic book fans hated the idea of Affleck playing the Dark Knight. But many skeptics grew fond of the actor’s portrayal in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” While supporters are hoping Affleck remains in the role, geeks are speculating who’ll be the next Batman. Armie Hammer is arguably the most popular choice to take on Caped Crusader. So, who should be Batman?

PERSPECTIVES

Collider’s John Campea reported Affleck no longer wants to be Batman. While fans are shocked, many geeks are speculating who can fill Batman’s cowl. And the answer for many comic book aficionados is Armie Hammer.

New Batman Director In Talks – Collider Movie Talk

Some think “The Batman” is doomed with Affleck taking a backseat. Many DC fans now love him as Batman, but Hammer has been in contention for some time. Should Hammer actually replace Affleck?

There are rumors of Affleck wanting out of “The Batman” — and hanging up the cape and cowl all together. But Affleck has already cemented himself into the role with “BvS” and the upcoming “Justice League” film.

We have a message for him: Sorry, Ben. You’re stuck as Batman. So you might as well suck it up.While it may be that you’re going to have to stick around for the solo movie before booking a one-way ticket to George Clooney’s Bad Batman Movie Rehab Center, because WB has you in an iron-clad contract, that’s not what I’m talking about. What I’m talking about is that, as unsatisfied as you may be right now, our collective memory will never disassociate Ben Affleck and the Dark Knight. You will always be, to some degree, Batman.

Hammer was supposed to play Batman in a previous project back in 2008, “Justice League Mortal.” But of course, that project idled in development hell. But a legion of fans are advocating for Hammer to play the hero now.

Both Movie Pilot and What Culture believe he’ll make the shortlist to play a younger, longer-lasting Batman.

Cosmic Book News writer Matt McGloin wrote:

While it’s purely speculation at this point (via Reddit), Armie Hammer would probably be the best choice to take over the Batman role from Ben Affleck. For one, Armie Hammer was already set to play Batman; he’s definitely got the look for both Bruce Wayne and stands at an imposing 6’5″ for Batman (Affleck is 6′ 4″), and Armie Hammer has worked with Superman Henry Cavill in The Man From UNCLE.

But Vulture argues that cleansing the DCEU Universe’s live-action cinema is really the bes tidea. Here’s why:

Such a move would be disastrous for Warner Bros. — but a cleansing disaster is exactly what the studio needs right now. Same goes for the star. In fact, Ben Affleck quitting the DC Entertainment superhero universe could be the best thing that’s happened to either in a while. In the still-turbulent wake of BvS’s critical drubbing and financial underperformance, it’s clear that something has to change in order for the DC cosmology to effectively compete with its rivals at Marvel Studios. This could be that change. It might be time for Batfleck to hang up the pointy-eared cowl so he and DC can rethink everything.

Hammer should be next in line to play the Dark Knight, right?

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” was panned by critics, and received eight Razzie nominations for being a sucky movie. Yet, the film was still a box office success.

On the other hand, Affleck totally feels the pressure of making a great solo Batman project. So it’s probably best if he backs out now before making another film.

Affleck’s fans would be upset if he left the role.

I would be disappointed if Ben Affleck quits as Batman. [?]

I thought he was good.

Hey @BenAffleck just thought I’d let you know you are the best Batman/Bruce that’s ever graced the screen. Thank you and please continue

Others wouldn’t mind a costume change with Hammer taking on the role.

Armie Hammer would be AWESOME as Batman @DCComics

I wouldn’t be surprised if Armie Hammer ends up playing Batman when Affleck drops out of #TheBatman/the #DCEU at large.
