“Blindspot” Season 2, episode 14 opens with a flashback to 2001 when a group of college kids, including Rich Dotcom (Ennis Esmer), broke into their school to hack into computers and change their grades.

In “Borrow or Rob,” police officials arrive at the school to arrest the group of college kids. Rich tries to sweet talk them out of pressing charges, but to no avail. This seems to be the first sign that Rich’s life will be filled with criminal activity in the future.

Back in present day, Nas (Archie Panjabi), Jane Doe (Jaimie Alexander) and Roman (Luke Mitchell) are out to visit the properties owned by Ellen Briggs, a.k.a. Shepherd (Michelle Hurd), to see if they will stir up some memories. But Patterson (Ashley Johnson) wants to focus more on a tattoo on Jane’s back that contains an equation with numbers. Patterson later on finds out the meaning behind the tattoo. After discovering what it meant, the team decides to seek Rich’s help, since he is one of the members of the secret society the FBI team will go after.

Throughout the entire episode, Rich works closely with Kurt Weller (Sullivan Stapleton). He also tells Kurt that the equation they found on Jane’s back is a risk vs reward algorithm that the secret society uses to justify their mostly harmless pranks. But Rich soon realizes that the current equation reveals the exact time an armed conflict will start and force a country into war.

In the end, the FBI is able to stop the war from taking place thanks to Rich’s help. The latter also wants to be more useful to the FBI, so it is possible that he will once again return for more episodes of the hit NBC TV series.

“Blindspot” Season 2 airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
