George Bainbridge, 54, is facing two counts of first-degree animal abuse and a single count of second-degree criminal mischief, the Columbia County sheriff said in a news release. Deputies arrested Bainbridge on Wednesday night, and he’s being held in the county jail on $36,250 bail, said Sheriff Jeff Dickerson.
Bainbridge previously told KPTV he feared for his safety when he spotted the pig on his Robinette Road property. The television station reported the pig weighed 900 lbs., was named “DJ” and lived next door on a rescue farm.
The pig’s owner, 56-year-old Michelle Fudge-Snow, told the station she found the pig seriously hurt on her property Monday and that he died a few hours later.
Bainbridge has previously killed animals from the farm and acted erratically toward Fudge-Snow and her family, she told the station.
He has a criminal record that includes drug and firearm convictions in 1996 and 2016, respectively, court records show.
