Steven Doyle McCullers, 53, was caught on camera loading bikes into a blue Toyota Rav4 with silver running boards, the agency said. Several open garage burglaries had been reported in the first 10 days of February, with a thief targeting unsecured bicycles.

Two bicycles with a combined value of $8,000 were recovered from McCullers’ hotel room, the Sheriff’s Office said.

"We confirmed he stole at least three and suspect he may have stolen others," sheriff’s spokesman Larry McKinnon said.

McCullers, arrested Tuesday, was booked on charges that include burglary of both occupied and unoccupied dwellings, grand theft, dealing in stolen property and providing false information on a pawnbroker form.

In jail records, he lists his address as an extended stay motel on Memorial Highway west of Tampa International Airport. He has previously lived in Plant City and Panama City Beach, records show.
