Let’s begin with an old term that seems particularly poignant at this point in time. “Red herring” is a kind of fallacy that is an irrelevant topic in an argument to divert the attention of listeners or readers from the original issue.

I find the timing of the immigration ban quite convenient for President Trump and his supporters. Two weeks after their promise to the country to offer a viable option to Obamacare, they have nothing. We need to ask ourselves why the GOP has fallen silent on an issue so important to Americans.

Trump’s promises to reform health care were a deciding factor for many voters who were swayed by his words. Trump and his cronies set the bait and a lot of good people took it-hook, line and sinker. Our politicians continue to pit us against one other, women against men; Christian against Muslim; liberal against conservative; white against people of color.

They are weakening our nation by instilling fear. It’s all smoke and mirrors, defined as a dubious vaudeville technique used by stage magicians. The problem is Trump has no rabbit to pull out of his hat.
