PAULSBORO — State Senate President Steve Sweeney and fellow lawmakers will meet with Axeon Asphalt Refinery employees on Wednesday night to discuss the potential of the refinery closing.
On Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at the Thorofare Firehouse, Sweeney will meet with workers, union representatives and local businesses to discuss the impact of the closure of the Axeon asphalt refinery in Paulsboro.
Representatives from the refinery have not released official word of when or why the refinery is closing but Reuters reported that the 75,000 barrel-per-day factory will close its doors sometime this year.
New Jersey Assemplyman John Burzichelli told Reuters that he’s been discussing ways to save the refinery with company officials.
The plant reportedly employs roughly 100 workers who are at risk of losing their jobs.
