A driver hit and killed a pedestrian Monday night on U.S. 26 in Beaverton, a police spokesman said.
Officer Jeremy Shaw, a Beaverton police spokesman, said officers don’t know why the pedestrian, a man, was on the freeway. The crash happened in the rightmost lane of U.S. 26 at the Northwest Cornell Road exit, Shaw said.
Authorities have closed the freeway in the area and are rerouting traffic. They anticipate reopening the affected section of U.S. 26 no earlier than about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The driver is cooperating with authorities, Shaw said. Police are investigating the crash.
