Alex (Chyler Leigh) finally comes out as gay to the rest of the team in tonight’s episode of “Supergirl.”
In a sneak peek from Season 2, episode 12, Alex gathers the group at the bar to personally introduce her girlfriend Maggie (Floriana Lima) to everyone. But because James (Mehcad Brooks) and Winn (Jeremy Jordan) have no idea that that Alex is gay, the two assume that Kara’s (Melissa Benoist) adoptive sister is dating a guy. So when Alex arrives at the bar with Maggie in tow, the vigilante duo is clearly surprised by what they learn.
“Alex, I didn’t know,” Winn tells his fellow DEO agent before asking J’onn (David Harewood) if he knew.
“Of course I knew. I’m psychic,” replies the Green Martian.
When Maggie asks how J’onn managed to never say anything before about her gender preference, the head of the DEO says: “It’s not for me to say. Good for you, Alex.”
Alex also tells Mon-El (Chris Wood) that she and Maggie are dating, and the Daxamite appears to be less shocked than James and Winn.
“Okay, is that like a problem here on Earth?” Mon-El asks.
“Well, on Earth not everybody supports ladies loving ladies,” Alex explains.
“On Daxam, it’s the more the merrier,” replies the waiter as Kara stares at him from her seat.
In an interview with TVLine last November, Jordan said that Winn won’t react negatively when he finds out that Alex is gay.
“Personally, I think Winn’s totally cool about it, though it’s not something we’ve fully addressed,” Jordan said at the time. “I don’t know if or when she’s going to fully come out to everybody, so we’ve yet to see how everybody would react to that, but I can’t imagine he would have a negative reaction. If you remember the pilot, Winn was very excited about the prospect of Kara being a lesbian.”
“Supergirl” Season 2, episode 12, titled “Luthors,” airs tonight at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
