An investigation of a Cherry Street apartment alerted city police to suspicious activity at a neighboring building and, ultimately, a second investigation that yielded a bigger drug bust.
Friday’s 6 a.m. raid on 18 Cherry St. netted 8g of cocaine and 50g of marijuana. At the second building, 16 Cherry St., police found straight powdered heroin, tar heroin and 300 baggies of fentanyl worth more than $4,500, city police spokesman Lt. Robert Jillson said Tuesday.
“This is significant for Saratoga,” Jillson said. “This is not the biggest drug bust we have seen, but for us it’s one of the biggest in the last couple of years. It’s notable.”
The raid on the apartments resulted in five arrests.
In the rear apartment at 16 Cherry, police charged Steven M. Boice, 27, of Saratoga Springs and Brett J. DiSanto, 26, of Greenwich with two felony counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. Boice had an additional felony charge of criminal possession of a weapon after police found a 12-gauge shotgun and a modified AR-15 rifle with four empty 30-round magazines.
Next door in 18 Cherry St. Apt. 2, police arrested three people. Robert J. Stamfli, 25, of Saratoga Springs was charged with criminal possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor.
Savannah L. Myers, 23, of Greenfield Center and Zachary B. Wood, 21, of Ballston Spa were each charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
More charges are pending for cocaine possession, Jillson said.
Seven people, ages 16-40, were in the apartment at the time of the raid, he said.
In addition to the drugs, Jillson said police found drug paraphernalia at both residences.
The State Police and Saratoga and Washington county sheriff’s offices assisted.
