PORTLAND, Ore. – United FC drew 2-2 against Portland Timbers at Providence Park on Sunday in a preview of the MLS season opener back at Providence Park early next month.
Johan Venegas, playing as a striker, owed his first goal largely to the work of winger Kevin Molino. One-time Loons keeper Jeff Attinella blocked Molino’s shot in the 25th, leaving Venegas to head in the rebound at the back post. The Costa Rican added a 32nd minute strike as well in his first game playing with the Loons.
Portland, though, came back in the second half with a strikes from forward Jack McInerney in the 52nd minute and forward Fanendo Adi’s backheel in the 85th minute.
United plays its final game of a three-game preseason tournament in Portland at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Real Salt Lake.
