Kube, a standout high school player at Cary-Grove, died at 11:50 p.m. Wednesday at Mercy Health in Rockford, according to reports. Results of an autopsy performed Thursday are pending, the Daily Herald reported.

Kube was working at Rockford East High School as an assistant coach and also had a business that helped athletes train for competition, the Daily Herald said.

Kube played for NIU from 2007 to 2010, amassing 311 career tackles in 50 games, including 40 starts. The Sporting News named him a freshman All-American in 2007, and he was a third-team All-MAC selection as a senior.
