SOMERS POINT –Students in Somers Point will be randomly searched after several were caught bringing knives to school, according to a report.

A student was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon and terroristic threatafter allegedly bringing a knife to a dance on Dec. 16, PressofAtlanticCity.com said. Others were disciplined in separate incidents.

The district already has a policy about searches, but will simply begin enforcing it by checking lockers and desks, the report said.

Somers Point administrators will also set up a real-time app called STOPIT for students to notify them about safety issues.

Somers Point is a kindergarten through eighth grade district with three schools.
