A $255 million Powerball jackpot was held Wednesday night.
The winning Powerball numbers are 14, 20, 42, 46, 66. Red ball 5.
No one has hit the jackpot since a Pennsylvania couple who opted to remain anonymous won a $121.6 million drawing on Dec. 17 with a ticket bought in Selbyville, Del. Since then, the top prize for the twice-weekly Powerball drawing has rolled over 14 times.
Though there was no jackpot winning ticket sold for the last drawing on Saturday, one sold at a convenience store in Monmouth County matched five numbers and is worth $1 million. A ticket sold in Texas is worth $2 million since the player spent an extra $1 to exercise the Power Play option.
The winning numbers for the $229 million drawing were 6–13–16–17–52. The Powerball was 25.
Last year ended with seven Powerball jackpots being won, down from 12 in 2015.
One of those was the record $1.58 billion prize shared by winners in Tennessee, California and Florida on Jan. 13, 2016. Another was a $429.6 million windfall shared by a Trenton woman and her seven adult children on May 7.
The odds of a $2 ticket hitting the jackpot are more than 292 million to 1. It’s roughly a 11,688,053 to 1 shot to match five numbers but not the Powerball.
Powerball is played in 44 states, Washington, D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
Meanwhile, no one hit the jackpot in the other large multi-state lottery game — Mega Millions — on Tuesday night. Two $1 million tickets were sold — one in Maryland and one in California. Both of those tickets matched five numbers but not the Mega Ball. Friday’s drawing is worth $30 million with a cash option of $18 million.
