Two East Aurora High school students were criminally charged after a fight Tuesday afternoon at the school on the 700 block of Fifth Avenue.

A 14-year-old male student was charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery, both felonies, after he allegedly pushed and threatened a female staff member who was trying to clear the hallways after a fight between two other male students, both 15, at about 1:35 p.m. Tuesday, police spokesman Dan Ferrelli said in an email.

The staff member "appeared to be simply trying to move students along," Ferrelli said. The report indicates the 14-year-old repeatedly tried to get past the staff member to "help out" one of the 15-year-olds in the original fight, when he verbally threatened and ultimately pushed her, Ferrelli said. The 14-year-old was taken to the youth home, he said.

One of the two 15-year-olds involved in the first fight was charged with misdemeanor battery and referred to Kane County Juvenile Court Services, then released to a parent, Ferrelli said.

No injuries resulted from the fight, for which police have not determined a motive, Ferrelli said.

East Aurora spokesman Tom Jackson confirmed the three teens involved were students and referenced the initial fight as a "physical altercation." School administrators cooperated with the East High school resource officer and Aurora police took two students into custody, Jackson said in an email.

"School officials will investigate the matter as well," Jackson said.
