The Ministry of Canadian Heritage announced Wednesday that it had granted $5.1 million to the Museum of Contemporary Art, Toronto, Canada, through its Canada Cultural Spaces Fund. The funding is earmarked to help complete the renovation of the museum’s new home in the historic Automotive Tower on Sterling Rd. in Toronto. The museum does not own the building, but rather has a 40-year lease in its lower five floors with its owner, Castlepoint Numa.

The announcement is the most recent in what appears to be a momentum-gathering for the museum. Late last year it told the Star it would delay its grand opening from spring this year to late fall, following a tumultuous summer that saw its hand-picked CEO, Chantal Pontbriand, abruptly resign. Last month, it announced it had chosen a new director of programs, November Paynter, who will begin work this spring.
