BEREA, Ohio – The man and woman arrested in connection to the stabbing death of a 50-year-old man in Strongsville had their bond set Wednesday morning at $1 million in Berea Municipal Court.
Timothy Bene, 32, and Courtney Heckman, 23, are each charged with murder in Berea Municipal Court, police said.
Bene is scheduled for his preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. Feb. 17 in Berea Municipal Court. Heckman waived her preliminary hearing and is scheduled for a hearing at 9:45 a.m. in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court. Court officials said she will be arraigned and an attorney will be appointed.
Bene and Heckman were arrested about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday in Ashland, about 65 miles southwest of Cleveland, police said.
Strongsville were called about 1 p.m. Friday to a home on Sprague Road near Marks Road. They found Bene’s stepfather, Dean Vastartis, with several stab wounds.
He was taken to Southwest General Hospital where he died, police said.
Bene and Heckman fled in Vastartis’ blue 2013 Mazda Protege after the stabbing, police said. The car was recovered Monday.
