After years of speculation, it looks like Nina Dobrev and Nikki Reed were never in a feud over Ian Somerhalder. On Tuesday, Reed shared a photo of herself, husband Ian Somerhalder and his ex-girlfriend Nina Dobrev, who is also his “Vampire Diaries” co-star, on Instagram.

The actress wrote a lengthy post addressing rumors that have plagued the three over the years. Following Somerhalder and Dobrev’s split in 2013, The CW actor began dating Reed, who was friends with his ex-girlfriend. Dobrev announced she was leaving the hit series in April 2015, just a few weeks before the new couple married.

Since then, there have been many rumors alleging that Dobrev left the show because she was bitter about Somerhalder moving on and that Reed stabbed her friend in the back and broke girl code by dating her ex-boyfriend.

Years later, it seems the two women want to put the past behind them and correct the misinformed.

Dobrev started off the friendship posts when she shared a photo of the three grabbing a bite to eat after wrapping the series finale of “TVD,” which the Canadian actress returned for. “Can’t believe how time flies. Farewell dinner with team Somereed! So good catching up with these goofballs,” she wrote.

Shortly after Reed followed with her own photo of the three and an explanation. “For the last few years we thought addressing any baseless rumors with silence was the best way. Besides, who wants to respond to made up stories about ‘friends backstabbing friends,’ ‘cheating exes,’ or ‘cast members exiting shows’ on low-brow websites like hollywoodlife that are just perpetuating trends that preceded us,” she wrote in her caption.

Reed stated that she realized her silence just allowed people to make up stories about her personal life. The actress noted that she believed she had a “moral responsibility” to address the feud because of young girls who read the media and the lies that can shape who they choose to become.

“So here’s to putting an end to all those fake stories of on set jealousy, betrayal, made-up-friendships lost & women hating women,” Reed wrote.

The actress explained that pitting women against one another teaches the younger generation to hate women and that it will eventually breed a world of women hating women. Her choice to address the feud acted as her attempt to change things.

“Let’s shift what we put into the universe starting now, & hopefully we will start to see a shift in the way we treat each other & view ourselves,” she wrote ending her post.

The final season of “The Vampire Diaries” airs on Fridays at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
