Hunt for filmmaker ends as body ‘found peacefully,’ Feb. 4

It was disappointing to see the large photo of an American football player on the front page vs. the meagre coverage of the life of Rob Stewart, a Torontonian. Stewart’s contribution to the preservation of sharks and all aquatic life was his life’s work and he was truly a hero with the making of his films Sharkwater and Revolution.

He enlightened the world to the dire circumstances concerning our oceans, the dangers of overfishing, and the cruel slaughter of sharks, dolphins and other creatures for such trivial reasons as removing a shark fin. He deserves full coverage and praise for his amazing efforts.

We watched and waited, hoping against hope that our local hero would be found safe.

Rob Stewart, world-renowned filmmaker and environmentalist was a strong and passionate defender of the Muskoka he loved so much. Direct and to the point, he made things happen, asking probing questions and challenging the status quo.

Rob’s film The Fight for Bala reflects his moral outrage, trying to reason with Premier Wynne to prevent unnecessary drowning deaths at a popular Muskoka swimming area, now targeted for a hydro generating station.

Rob was a pursuer of truth. Unapologetic. He pushed boundaries, his and ours.

Rest in peace, Rob.
