It looks like Kara (Melissa Benoist) is celebrating her Earth birthday alone.
“Supergirl” Season 2, episode 11 finds Kara grappling with her feelings about Mon-El (Chris Wood), but early in the installment, she decides to focus on her Earth birthday instead of dealing with her feelings about the Daxamite.
In the “Inside: Supergirl” featurette for the episode, “Supergirl” co-executive producer Jessica Queller reveals that Kara’s Earth birthday is a tradition she always celebrates with her sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh). But since Alex has a date with her girlfriend Maggie (Floriana Lima), the DEO agent asks the Girl of Steel to postpone her birthday celebration. “Now that Alex is in a relationship with Maggie, Alex blows off Earth birthday to go on a date and Kara is grappling with her sister not always being available to her,” Queller says.
Elsewhere in the episode, Kara and J’onn (David Harewood) and the rest of the team try to protect M’gann (Sharon Leal) from White Martian Armek (Terrell Tilford), who is tasked to bring back M’gann to Mars for being a traitor to their race.
“At the end of the last episode, M’gann warned that the White Martians are coming. They have been hunting her for hundreds of years and in this episode they finally arrive to take her back,” says executive producer Robert Rovner in the featurette.
Protecting M’gann from Armek isn’t easy. Things get particularly tricky when Armek manages to infiltrate the DEO headquarters by shape-shifting into M’gann. With the DEO’s security compromised, the team realizes that Armek could be disguised as any of them.
“Our heroes get locked in the DEO with the White Martian. And one of the cool things about the White Martians is that they can shape-shift. So they’re locked in and they don’t know which one of them is the bad guy,” Rovner teases.
“Supergirl” Season 2, episode 11, titled “The Martian Chronicles,” airs tonight at 8 p.m. EST on The CW. Watch the featurette below:
