Guero’s Northeast Portland torta shop is almost ready to open.

The counter-service torteria, from owners Megan Sanchez and Alec Morrison, will open Wednesday in Northeast 28th Avenue’s former Tabla Pasta e Vino space. The new restaurant is just blocks north from the duo’s sleek cart The Oregonian named among the 15 best in the city.

The 50-60 seat space will focus on tortas, serving their classics along with popular one-off specials from the cart and a number of new regional-specific tortas. Sanchez also says to expect sides, snacks, bowls and fresh, bright drinks that go well with the hearty sandwiches. Come spring, look for outdoor seating.

For the first week of “soft opening” service, Guero will be open from 4 – 10 p.m. Starting Feb. 15, the restaurant will be open regular hours from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m.
