Fire Emblem Heroes is the latest title in Nintendo’s mobile game push, but it won’t be the only new Fire Emblem content fans will see in the coming months.
In an interview with IGN, Fire Emblem Heroes game director Kouhei Maeda revealed the studio plans a regular schedule of updates for the game’s lifespan.
“We plan to add new stories continually after release, at a pace of about two a month or one every two weeks,” Maeda told IGN. “We also plan to add things like new characters and skills, as well as new game modes that go in different directions from the current gameplay.”
When asked about three new upcoming Fire Emblem games — including a standalone title for the upcoming Nintendo Switch slated for 2018 — and the possibility of additional tie-ins to Fire Emblem Heroes, Maeda declined to comment to IGN.
Since its release last week for Google Android and Apple iOS users, Fire Emblem Heroes has seen a strong response from users. While Nintendo has yet to announce download or earnings numbers — users can buy in-game currency with money — the title was sixth as of this writing on Apple’s top free app downloads list. In Fire Emblem Heroes, players control a team of heroes in turn-based combat.
As a more niche title from Nintendo’s back catalog, Fire Emblem Heroes also looks to be another part in the company’s multi-tiered approach to mobile games. While the publisher is still bringing denser titles like Fire Emblem Heroes and Pokemon Duel to American gamers, titles like Super Mario Run and Pokemon Go are built to be casual-friendly and mass market games.
