An impersonation on Saturday Night Live that’s over the top? Say it ain’t so!

White House press secretary Sean Spicer got lampooned on the sketch show on Saturday. Actress Melissa McCarthy rolled out a cameo as a manic, gum-chomping spin-meister who abuses the press corps.

Spicer thought it was all just a little . . . much.

McCarthy “could dial back” her impression, Spicer said in an interview with television’s Extra.

He admitted that the bit was funny, but said McCarthy “needs to slow down on the gum chewing; way too many pieces in there.”

That detail likely came from a profile written last year by our Washington Post colleague Ben Terris, in which Spicer is described as constantly “churning through pieces of Orbit cinnamon gum, which he chews and swallows whole.”

Now Spicer knows how his boss feels; SNL has lampooned President Donald Trump for months. Alec Baldwin plays the blustery, impulsive prez.

It could be worse; in another skit, writers depicted Spicer’s White House colleague Steve Bannon as an evil grim reaper.
