HOUSTON — He might be the greatest quarterback of all time, but New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady did not get off to a great start in Super Bowl LI.
Atlanta Falcons defensive back Robert Alford made it much worse towards the end of the second quarter.
On 3rd-and-six from the Falcons’ 23-yard line with 2:21 to play, Alford stepped in front of a Brady pass intended for receiver Danny Amendola and took it back 82 yards for the touchdown.
The pick-six was the first of Brady’s Super Bowl career, and gave the Falcons a 21-0 lead.

The Falcons jumped all over the Patriots early and often, scoring on a five-yard touchdown with 12:21 remaining in the second quarter to take a 7-0 lead (WATCH).
That touchdown was quickly followed up with another one, a 14-yard Austin Hooper touchdown reception from Matt Ryan which upped Atlanta’s lead to 14-0 with 8:48 remaining in the second quarter.
Brady’s struggles should not be surprising, as he is 1-2 in games he is sacked more than one time, and the Falcons brought down Brady two times in the first quarter alone.
