A 19-year-old man is dead after troopers say he ran a red light Sunday in Seminole County.

Christopher Merwin, of Altamonte Springs, was driving south on Wekiva Springs Road when he drove through a “solid red light” at East Lake Brantley Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Merwin rammed into the side of Shatoria Scott’s car, highway patrol Sgt. Kim Montes said.

Scott, 31, was driving through a green light in the intersection, and the impact from the crash caused her car to overturn, Montes said.

After Merwin hit Scott, he continued through the intersection and hit a third vehicle, Montes said.

Neither of the two people inside the third car were injured.

Scott was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

Merwin was taken to an area hospital, where he later died. His passenger also had minor injuries, Montes said.

The intersection is just east of Lake Brantley and west of Interstate 4.
