HAMILTON — A 16-year-old driver sped away from State Police before he crashed on the New Jersey Turnpike, leading troopers to recover loaded guns and drugs from the car Saturday, authorities said.
Troopers spotted a green Subaru Impreza speeding on Interstate 295 near milepost 59.9 around 1:40 a.m. and tried to pull over the car, according to a statement from police. The car didn’t stop for the marked State Police unit and continued speeding away.
The 16-year-old driver lost control of the Subaru, which crashed into a traffic barrier near Interchange seven on the Turnpike, State Police said. Troopers arrested the driver and two other men in the car. There were no injuries in the wreck, according to police.
In the car, troopers discovered two handguns loaded with illegal hollow point bullets, marijuana, heroin and other drug paraphernalia, according to the statement.
