A man running from police late Friday reportedly wound up taking a late-night, 40-minute swim in a Slatington quarry.
Borough police Chief David Rachman said one of his officers stopped a car, determined to have been stolen out of Coatesville in Chester County, before midnight in the 100 block of Main Street. Two men, one of whom was the driver, and a woman were in the car. Rachman could not immediately provide their identities.
The driver ran off into the woods with police in pursuit trying to stop him with stun guns, but he fell down a 30-foot embankment into quarry water, the chief said.
For 40 minutes, the man would not get out, Rachman said. The fire department tossed him a life preserver, but had to have someone in a wetsuit go in to pull him out, he said.

The man was hospitalized with hypothermia but was arranged on charges of receiving stolen property and escape, the chief said. He also has warrants out of Chester County and will be sent to Lehigh County Prison when he recovers.
The other male passenger was taken into custody on a warrant out of Allentown, Rachman said.
