ATLANTIC CITY — A police officer has been presented with a new bulletproof vest after his was damaged in a shooting incident last fall, a report says.

Atlantic City Police Officer Thomas McCabe received the vest thanks to The Safariland Group and Atlantic Tactical as part of their Heroic Action Replacement Program, according to Fox29.com.

McCabe was injured in the early-morning hours of Sept. 3 during a shooting incident outside of a casino parking garage when he and a partner interrupted a robbery in progress. That partner, Officer Joshlee Vadell, was critically wounded in the incident.

McCabe, who was also shot at, the report said, was able to return fire and strike and kill one of the suspects.

According to Fox29.com, McCabe told the group assembled at the presentation Friday, “I’m proud to be an Atlantic City cop.  Even with everything going on, I couldn’t imagine being with another department.”

McCabe’s quick action in returning fire and getting medical help for Vadell have been credited with helping save Vadell’s life.
