A 28-year-old female hockey player who once played for Cornell and Columbia wants to put a Chelsea Piers referee in the penalty box after he allegedly tackled her during a co-ed game, leaving her with a broken nose and a concussion.

Samantha Weinberg, an associate at the Manhattan law firm Paul, Weiss, is suing ref James Gallegro and Chelsea Piers in Manhattan Supreme Court over the April 2016 incident.

“This case arises out of the absurd and excessive force by Gallegro in horse-collaring Ms. Weinberg by grabbing her helmet from behind and slamming her head and back into the ice while he refereed a co-ed ice hockey game,” according to court papers.

She had two surgeries to fix her nose.

Gallegro said that video evidence from the rink proves that Weinberg was the aggressor. Gallegro said he intervened only after Weinberg allegedly attacked a male player from behind and started punching him.

A rep for the rink did not return messages seeking comment.
