ST. LOUIS—Morgan Rielly sounded optimistic about playing Thursday night against the St. Louis Blues.

But he’s officially a game-time decision, with consultations with the team’s medical and training staff standing in the way of his return to the Maple Leafs lineup.

“I felt good this morning but nothing is 100 per cent,” said Rielly, out with an undisclosed lower body injury. “I feel like I’ve had enough of watching. I’m looking forward to having a chance to come back.”

The Leafs have a record of 2-3-1 without Rielly.

Other changes were anticipated. Ben Smith looked ready to return to his role as fourth line centre. That will mean Frederik Gauthier will be returned to the minors.

And the lines from practice on Wednesday were again the lines for the morning skate. That means Mitch Marner and James van Riemsdyk will likely have Nazem Kadri as their centre. William Nylander has been returned to Auston Matthews’ right wing.

Connor Brown is on the right side with Tyler Bozak at centre and Leo Komarov on left wing.

Frederik Andersen will be in net for the Leafs.
