Disneyland fans now have a chance to have an upscale dinner in a private suite.
The new dining experience is called 21 Royal, and the price is also upscale: $15,000. That price includes park admission, valet parking, tax and tip for up to 12 people for the five or more hour experience.
It takes place in a private dining room that is now part of the Disneyland Dream Suite, located in New Orleans Square above the entrance to Pirates of the Caribbean.
The suite was originally envisioned to be a new apartment for Walt Disney and his family where he would be able to entertain special guests and spend the night in his theme park. But when he died in 1966, construction was halted. It was completed in 2008 as the Dream Suite and includes two bedrooms, a living room, a private patio and more.
The dining room was recently added during an overhaul of the nearby private Club 33.
The experience includes a multi-course meal that can be custom designed by Andrew Sutton, the resort’s culinary director of Signature Restaurants.
“We want the food and wine to tell a personal story,” he said in a statement.
That custom design can include a theme, or types of foods to be used in the preparation of the meal, that can be worked out when making the reservation.
Helping Sutton will be chef de cuisine Justin Monson who added that they want the meal to tell a story, one that at least one of them will be on hand to tell, according to Disney.
Each course will be served on gold-plated dinnerware, and be paired with a separate wine chosen by Disney’s sommelier Matt Ellingson.
The guests will enter via the main living room into the suite for pre-dinner cocktails, and given a chance to relax. Then they will enter the dining room for the multi-course meal.
Afterwards, dessert will be served on the outdoor patio where guests can watch Disneyland’s night time show “Fantasmic!” if it is running.
As to why this experience is being offered, Disney said that many groups are asking for unique ways to celebrate special occasions beyond the weddings and VIP tours the park currently offers. (Those weddings can easily cost $25,000 or more depending on the size of the reception and other extras such as the bride arriving in a horse-drawn carriage.)
