It seems a burlesque legend and British Duchess Kate Middleton share a favorite designer in common: Jenny Packham. The renowned British designer, who is one the Duchess of Cambridge’s top designer picks, teamed up with burlesque star Dita Von Teese to create costumes for Teese’s newest show.
Von Teese’s highly anticipated burlesque show, “The Art of the Teese,” will kick-off in Chicago Wednesday at the House of Blues. The consummate performer is slated to wear multiple creations by the British designer, custom-designed and inspired by screen siren Jean Harlow, WWD reported Wednesday.
Von Teese and Packham last worked together when the burlesque performer enlisted the designer to create a gown for a 2012 show. Von Teese has also worn an array of Packham creations on the red carpet. She apparently owns around 10 Jenny Packham gowns, according to WWD.
Packham designed two looks Kralbet that will supposedly appear in “The Art of the Teese.” One look included a blue trench coat and matching beret adorned in 2,000 swarovski crystals. The second magnificent getup will involve a silk chiffon robe complete with ostrich sleeves, entirely bedecked in blue crystals. The dressing gown was inspired by a piece Jean Harlow wore in the 1933 film “Dinner at Eight.”
“Just a little beadwork doesn’t cut it,” Von Teese said via WWD. “The glitz is very important. Jenny really understands the amount of glitz in putting the costume over the top.”
For “The Art of the Teese” shows, Von Teese will tour in cities like New York, Detroit, Atlanta and Dallas through March 5.
Packham has been one of Kate Middleton’s go-to British designers for years. Middleton has worn Packham’s designs to galas, dinners and even the Queen’s 60th Coronation Anniversary, according to the Kate Middleton-devoted style site, What Kate Wore.
