CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish has continued his prodigious fundraising, even though he is not up for re-election until next year and has not indicated if he will seek a second term.
Budish, who raised about $1.4 million in his successful bid for the county’s highest office in 2014, raised $297,550 from four fundraising events in the last six months of 2016, according to campaign finance reports filed Tuesday with the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections.
Friends of Armond Budish now has $458,205 on hand, according to the report.

Budish, a former state legislator with a reputation as a strong fundraiser, defeated Republican Jack Schron in 2014. Schron, a county councilman, reported raising almost $655,000 and spending about $662,500.
Budish continued to receive contributions in 2016 from those who supported him two years ago.
He has been asked to comment.
Here’s what he raised:
Sept. 7: $15,750. Donations ranged from $100 to $1,000.
Sept. Oleybet 28: $14,100. Most donations were $100, although one $5,000 check was written by Rebecca Heller of Moreland Hills.
Dec. 6: $252,700. Many $5,000 and $10,000 donations were received. Milton Maltz, the former chairman and CEO of The Malrite Co., contributed $25,000.
Dec. 12: $15,000. Most donations were $250 but one $5,000 donation was received from Keycorp Advocates Fund.
General contributions: $39,000.
The campaign committee spent $50,556. That includes $4,000 a month for consulting services from Balodis Group LLC. The company is owned by Wendy Balodis, who was Budish’s fundraising chief for his election.
The committee also contributed $1,684 for printing, food, postage and a robo call for Scott Tuma, a Parma councilman who successfully ran for County Council in November.
