WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama and President Donald Trump both spent their first January in office issuing executive orders and memorandums.

But the focus of their policies differed — though both presidents established ethical guidelines for executive branch employees.

In January of 2009, President Obama issued an executive order that focused on prisoner interrogation methods. He established a task force assigned to look into all lawful options available to detain people captured in armed conflicts.

He also tried to shut down the Guantanamo Bay detention facility. That didn’t happen; political difficulties stood in the way, according to CNN.

Trump in January of this year made it clear he wants to repeal the Affordable Care Celtabet Act, better known as Obamacare. He also cleared a path to continue construction on the Keystone XL pipeline and the Dakota Access pipeline.

He also temporarily banned citizens from seven predominantly Muslim countries from traveling to the United States and barred refugees from entering the country. The order indefinitely bans Syrian refugees from entering the United States.
