LONDON, April 25, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — The World’s 50 Best Restaurants today announces its 2024 Champions of Change, the hospitality heroes at the forefront of positive action and long-term progress in the sector and their communities.
As part of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024 program, sponsored by S. Pellegrino
Roots de Modena is a social enterprise model run by migrant women, founded by Caroline Caporossi and chef Jessica Rosval. In 2020, the duo founded the Association for the Integration of Women, whose mission is to provide resources for women to put down roots and thrive. In 2022, together with co-founder Maria Assunta Ioele, they opened Roots, a self-sustaining social impact model in which migrant women from Modena can learn, work and gain self-confidence while taking their first professional steps.
The Brazilian João Diamante has also been named Champion of Change and is the founder of the social project Diamantes Na Cozinha (Diamonds in the Kitchen), which teaches cooking, nutrition and hospitality courses for young people in vulnerable situations.
Diamantes Na Cozinha is creating a new generation of talent, now serving up to 100 students in semester courses. Earlier this year, Diamante opened his own restaurant in Rio, Diamante Gastrobar, with most of the staff graduating from his school.
William Drew, Chief Content Officer of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, commented: “The work these people are doing to contribute to a better future for their communities is admirable and we are pleased to support the development of such valuable projects.”
Caroline Caporossi and Jessica Rosval commented: “It is an honor to receive this recognition. We are very proud of our graduates; the success of Roots is possible thanks to the value they bring to our kitchen every day and this award is further proof of the human and economic capital of women around the world.
João Diamante said: “Being named Champion of Change is a great compliment and I am grateful for the appreciation of our work. This project was launched to help socially vulnerable people in Rio find a path to a better future and I’m proud to be able to share it with a global audience.”
