LUXEMBOURG, 16 June. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The European Investment Bank (EIB) has committed this Friday 8,000 million euros in investments for the security industry in Europe, “the highest level to date”, in addition to committing an increase in support for Ukraine.
The Board of Governors of the EIB has met this Friday on the margins of the meeting of Ministers of Economy and Finance that is held in Luxembourg and that has followed the decision of the Board of Directors of the EIB made up of 27 ministers to increase investments in security to 8,000 million euros, compared to the current 6,000 million, until 2027.
The Board of Directors of the EIB has thus approved an increase in the size of the European Strategic Security Initiative, dedicated to investment in security, which will emphasize military mobility, space, ecological security and critical infrastructure.
For his part, EIB President Werner Hoyer briefed ministers on the EIB Group’s activities over the past year, including €72.5 billion in new financing signed in 2022, as well as operations in Ukraine.
“We are strengthening our support for Europe’s industrial competitiveness, priority investment and cutting-edge dual-use technologies, deploying the full range of our resources in the most flexible way possible”, said Hoyer, who stressed that “the The credibility of the European Union, nationally and internationally, is at stake”.
