Industrial production in Germany registered a decline of 3.4% in March compared to the previous month, when it had rebounded 2.1%, while compared to the same month in 2022 it experienced an increase of 1.8%, according to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).
Thus, in the first quarter of 2023 as a whole, industrial production was 2.5% higher than the data corresponding to the fourth quarter of 2022.
In March, the automotive industry made a particularly large contribution to the decline in industrial production, falling 6.5%, after rising 6.9% in February, while machinery and equipment manufacturing fell 3 .4% and production in construction fell by 4.6%.
Likewise, the production of capital goods decreased by 4.4%, the production of intermediate goods by 3.5% and the production of consumer goods by 0.1% compared to the previous month.
Industry production excluding energy and construction decreased by 3.3% compared to February 2023 in seasonally and calendar-adjusted terms. On its side, energy production increased 0.8% compared to the previous month and construction production fell 4.6%.
