WALKER LAKE | A fishing trip in the Port-Cartier–Sept-Îles reserve will make you discover the deepest lake in Quebec, but also a unique nature, with its cliffs and forests that stretch as far as the eye can see. You will discover the richness of the Côte-Nord.

The undisputed star of the territory is Lac Walker, with its trophy speckled trout.

“We can offer speckled trout fishing enthusiasts the chance to catch trophy fish in a unique lake in Quebec,” explains reserve director Danny Bacon.

“In Lake Walker, the deepest in Quebec, amateurs have the chance to recover specimens weighing more than five pounds. It is certain that this type of grip is not made every day, but they are there. One-pound and two-pound trout are not uncommon,” he continues.

To sail on this real inland sea, you have to own the boat accordingly.

Surely a 16 foot longboat with a 15+ horsepower motor will get you around, but if the weather kicks in you could be in trouble.

For fishing, nothing really rocket science. “Early in the season, the fishing is done at the head of the lake, where the Gravel and Schmon rivers provide plenty of food for the trout. Just go there and cast with lures of the fisherman’s choice. The blue color is very popular with trout, explains the director. For the rest of the season, fishing is done along rocky headlands where people can troll. »

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES

For your stay at Walker Lake, you can stay in one of the seven fully equipped cabins, which can accommodate four to six people.

You can use the campsite, which has 50 places, or one of the two Étoile ready-to-camp units.

This reserve also offers you the possibility of discovering another exceptional fishing site, in the Lac Arthur sector.

“We have five Modik cabins there, accommodating four people each with all the necessary amenities for their stay. We offer fishing on fifteen lakes that are filled with speckled trout, explains the director. Very often, people don’t even finish their stay, the fishing is so excellent and fast. »

We were able to see it. During our visit, within two hours, the group members had caught their limit of 20 trout each.

It was amazing to experience the bites of hungry trout that threw themselves on our lures. It had been a long time since I had seen such a thing.

Personally, I fished with a Cami with a blue center, while the others fished with Flashkings, Lake Clear Deep and the Cami. In any case, the color blue was in the spotlight.

Truly, it is an experience to live. This is the kind of adventure that this wildlife reserve offers you.

To fish in this sector, you can either do it as part of a dedicated stay or during a stay at Lake Walker, while you can take a day to have fun on your way to Lake Arthur.

You can also choose the formula of the seven-day stay, divided between Lake Walker and Lake Arthur. In both cases, you can use your personal boat.

In downtown Port-Cartier, the reserve also offers salmon fishing trips in the waters of Rivière aux Rochers.

MAJESTIC NATURE.

During a stay in this reserve, you can take the time to discover the unique nature of the North Shore. On the shores of Lake Walker, in front of the chalets and the campground, there are immense fine sandy beaches, beaches that have nothing to envy to those of the South.

The mountains, the cliffs, the glacial valley of the MacDonald River, all these panoramas are breathtaking.

We can then discover the nature of this corner of Quebec, which is like no other.

You can see the traces left by the glaciers and especially the strength that emerges from all this scenery. Several hiking trails will take you to the summits. We must not forget the warm welcome of the inhabitants of this corner of the country.
