The prolific authors Anne Boyer and Michel d’Astous will sign a new series, called “My mother”, which will feature Chantal Fontaine next fall on TVA.

This novelty is in line with the magnificent and touching production “My son”, which had won a Gemini for interpretation to the actor Antoine L’Écuyer in 2020. Like “My son”, “My mother” is another part of the “Mental Health and Family” collection from Duo Productions, the box of the two authors and producers, as well as Quebecor Content.

QMI Agency has obtained details regarding the rest of the cast of “My Mother”. We will find in the six episodes the actors Mustapha Aramis, Marylin Castonguay, Richard Des Lys, Steve Gagnon, Alexandre Goyette, Rachel Graton, Julie Ménard, Martin-David Peters, Richard Robitaille, Luc Senay and Sonia Vachon.

It is the director François Bouvier (“Ruptures”, “The ups and downs of Sophie Paquin”) who will pilot the filming from June 20.

According to the synopsis, “My Mother” follows 58-year-old Chantal (Chantal Fontaine), who is released from prison after 18 months of confinement during which she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She embarks on therapy and puts her cards on the table with her loved ones whom she has always “abused and deceived”, it was specified in a document consulted by the QMI Agency.

Valérie (Marylin Castonguay), Chantal’s eldest daughter, is not close to her mother, with whom she nevertheless has to cohabit because she is going through a bad patch, abuse even threatening her balance. Chantal’s two other children, Justine (Rachel Graton) and Éric (Steve Gagnon), as well as their spouses Rachid (Mustapha Aramis) and Christopher (Martin-David Peters), also suffered due to Chantal’s mental health problems. His return revives serious wounds.

“Mental health problems are, more than ever because of the pandemic, one of the major challenges in our society. We want to further explore this little-known reality that is still undermined today by shame, prejudice, lack of resources and stubborn taboos. We must break down the wall of shame and help create a climate of benevolence and mutual aid,” said Anne Boyer and Michel D’Astous.

They are collaborators from the start. They have written soap operas and series together since “Games of society” in 1989. As authors, they have written, among other things, “The gentleman”, “Our summers”, “The blue hour”, “The man who loved too much”, “Under a variable sky”, “Tabou” and “Yamaska”. They have been producing for a few years. We owe their company, Duo Productions, series such as “Classé secret”, “Piégés”, “If we loved each other”, “After”, “For Sarah”, “One in two” and “Us”, a production which has just been canceled by Club illico, but of which there are 12 episodes left to upload to the platform next fall.
