Affected by the pandemic as many of the other movies, Avatar 2 is expected to soon restart its filming in New Zealand. Its release date may be pushed back accordingly ?
[updated on may 26, 2020 at 10h04] You know, it’s been over ten years that James Cameron is working on the implementation of the suites of his blockbuster Avatar. Filming from several months in New Zealand, the filming river of these suites has been interrupted because of the health risks of the pandemic coronavirus, which rages everywhere in the world. By precautionary measures, the filming in new zealand had therefore been put on hold. It should, however, resume from the beginning of the month of June, the government kiwi has authorized the resumption of filming on his floor for two weeks already. The producer of the film Jon Landau has announced on his account Instagram, the team “could not be more excited to return to New Zealand next week” to resume recording of the movie. Now the question arises about the release date of Avatar 2 is still planned for the 17th December 2021 at the current time. This schedule did not provide for as much delay in the shooting, which could legitimize a new postponement in the release date. Note, however, that Avatar 2 is part of the rare blockbusters that will be able to resume his shooting, while the film industry hollywood is still off in California. It is possible that this will allow Avatar 2 to catch up, especially if the production has benefited from the weeks of suspension to advance on the special effects by example.

In an interview published by Variety, Jon Landau, producer, and James Cameron discussed the future of the saga with Avatar 2 in particular. The following should be carried out under the waters of Pandora. Cameron says that the scripts of the four Avatar’s sequels are already written, but also that the scenes in performance capture for Avatar 2, 3 and the first part of the 4 are already in the box. It also states that the catch of real sight are almost finished also, and that there are still a few months shooting in New Zealand in the spring of 2020. The director is also justified on the time it took him to get out the sequel to Avatar. “People don’t understand at what point this process is complex and huge. It is as if it was two huge animated films and a half. In general, a big animated film takes about four years to be done. So if we do the calculation, it is quite in time for December 2021.”
