In Paris, Public prosecutor’s office is investigating a supposedly anti-Semitic murder of 85-year-old Holocaust survivor Mireille Knoll. According to a communication by Jewish Umbrella Association Crif, Knoll was found dead in her apartment on Friday. According to a report from newspaper Le Parisien, traces of several knife engravings were found on corpse. Fire was placed in apartment after several places.
France’s chief Rabbi Haïm Korsia tweeted: “Appalled at tragic death of Mireille Knoll, survivor of Shoah.” Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said during a visit to Jerusalem that a Semitic motif appeared “plausible”. This shows how important fight against antisemitism is.
Just barely escaped German occupiers
Knoll’s son told French news agency AFP that his 1932-born mor was just barely escaping “raid of Vélodrome d ‘ hiver” in 1942, having fled from Paris with her mor shortly before. At that time, French police officers arrested 13,000 Jews at instigation of German occupiers. Most of m were later deported and murdered to Auschwitz concentration camp.
Just a year ago, a pensioner with Jewish beliefs had been murdered in Paris. The investigators were in criticism because y did not initially assume an anti-Semitic motive. It was not until February 2018 that judiciary classified act as presumably anti-Semitic.
