The Islamic scholar and religious teacher Lamya Kaddor writes in her new book “The Affair with Bratwurst” that she had always felt quite good in between. Between German and Syrian, too Muslim and too little Muslim. Her far came to Munich from Damascus in 1975. The following year, he took care of her mor and siblings. She herself was born in Germany. In her book she describes how or being was a long part of her identity – and how she visits Djinn Summoner Shaykh Mahmoud during holidays in Syria, whose ceremony she considers with scepticism of Germans. He should make a curse ineffective. In Islam, this custom is not allowed. Many years later, however, she notes that occult practice of jinn-operators is also popular in Germany.

When Salma and I had been at home with Shaykh Mahmoud, I had him holed up where he had learned “such a thing”. He had answered dry: “in Morocco.” I hooked up, so he said, “this can actually be anyone who knows corresponding formulas.” – “What are se formulas?” – “Sayings Just.” – “and where do you find m?” – “They are in certain books.” – “In what books?” But at this point Shaykh had me testily stalled. “Khalâs! (“Enough now!”) Do you still want to know if someone is cursed or not? “
The question of books occupied me for a while, but acute curiosity soon left. I did not want to deal with this matter too much, thought it was a waste of time. Neverless, she must have somehow ensconced herself in my head at that time. A good ten years later, my grandfar Mustafa had long since passed away, experience with Jinn was no longer an issue, as my Uncle Badr mentioned in a conversation a mysterious, “forbidden” book that my grandfar had possessed. What book? “I asked. “One with which you can summon Djinn. In title stood something with sun. ” Immediately subject was again present.
I asked if I could see it and why Dschiddo had ever owned such a book. It was given to him, Badr said. But he immediately closed it, because he did not hold much of people practicing magic, nor wanted ors to do it. “Now book is gone. We don’t know who has it. “

When I was back in Germany a little later, I researched book. Uncle Badr’s lots of clues were enough to get a result quickly. Dschiddo Mustafa had a copy of book “Shams al-Ma ‘ ârif al-Kubrâ” owned by Ahmad ibn ‘ Ali was al-Bûnî, a 13th-century Sufi. In German, poetic title is “The Great sun of knowledge”, and content of it is about supposedly magical power of Arabic letters, words and names, if y are properly applied to protect against evil. Over centuries, to this day, Orthodox scholars in particular have been forbidden to consult this book and or writings by Al-Bûnî.
Much is pure superstition
Internet videos are strongly warned against following instructions in this book. Which, of course, does not stop people in Germany from using this book and techniques it contains. Accordingly, re are various Shaykh Mahmouds in Germany as points of contact for all those who cannot explain ir problems. Much of this is pure superstition and mostly happens out of despair. If friends, doctors, psychologists and homeopaths can no longer help, n perhaps Djinn summons. In this magic it is like clairvoyance: some “diagnoses” are so cleverly formulated that everyone can find mselves in it.
A well-known name Ezra, whom I met during my studies, told me at some point that she was ill with epilepsy. Her parents advised her to go to a Hodja – so call Turks religious teachers, imams or shaykh, as Mahmoud was. She asked me if I would accompany her. Alone she would be afraid to go re. She hoped for moral assistance from me. I warned m not to go to such a Hodja, let alone to hope. But she did not let herself be swayed, and we made our way to Cologne. My curiosity was once again at least as great as my helpfulness. We drove A57 down from western Ruhr area to Rhineland to Cologne-Chor Weiler in evening. The trip ended on fourth floor of a multi-family house. Ezra had contact over her parents. She was visibly tense. I was just thinking, what could be worse than in Syria at Mahmoud?
Arrived at front door, re was first surprise. More than a dozen pairs of shoes on mat betrayed me that we probably weren’t only guests. We rang.
