Let’s start with a man who really gave it: Ted Bundy was a mass murderer who killed at least 28 women in United States between 1974 and 1978. Four films deal with him: The deliberate stranger, The Stranger Beside me, Riverman and capture of Green River Killer. The VW Beetle, in which he umherfuhr, took women and murdered, is now in museum. Bundy is much more famous than all of his victims toger.

After having been caught and imprisoned by Bundy, a number of women took contact with him; Smart, respectable, sensitive women who wanted to save and understand him. When he was executed, most of se penpals were deeply saddened, some suffered from depression. They had fallen to man, had found fulfillment in interpretation of his deeds, especially in hope of taming his demon for his own enjoyment. Most had dreamed of a life with him.

In years of his detention, Bundy occasionally received scientists, CRIMINOLOGISTSS, journalists – he liked that y wanted to understand riddle of his cruelty, his “fall”. He was a sociopath, scientists said, a man with a severe narcissistic disorder. Bundy himself saw thing in a provocative way, he understood his character deficiency as an invaluable advantage: “I’m probably in enviable position that I don’t have to struggle with guilt.” He never found guilt with himself, re were always ors responsible for his deeds – evil grandfar, television program, pornography, or appalled facial expression of his victims, who had invited him to act. A character disposition that is typical of a serial killer and about which his audience may envy him.

Bundy was an early star among killers. He looked good, and he had gift of changing his appearance all time. He drew people into his spell. Many serial killers in literature and in film were created after his model.

The cinema later did Seine to increase our insensibility for victims. At latest with Jonathan Demme thriller The Silence of lambs we were as spectators accomplices of wrong, changed sides and stopped to murder. Demme makes man-eater Hannibal Lecter demonstratively get away, yes one sees, through names of film credits through, rar casually, as Lecter strolls out of picture, after a man he will approve for dinner. Anthony Hopkins has raised serial killer to genius; His Hannibal Lecter belongs to nobility of pop culture.

There are many ories about why we are so fascinated by uneasy and supposedly unreasonable murdering man. One is: The murderer impressed us as determined Egoist, who we do not dare to be – a beast that drives ir zealotry, ir dominance fantasies, ir greed for control on a pathological tip.
