The Congress Library of USA has abandoned plan to archive every tweet sent. As of January 1, only selected Twitter messages would be saved, library shared. The archive lacked capacity to keep all contributions including attached photos or videos.

According to 2010, Congress Library had started to archive all Twitter messages. At that time, company Twitter had handed library its database with all public tweets ever sent. The first post was 2006 tweeted. The library has now archived a twelve-year snapshot of beginning of one of most important and transformativsten means of communication, it was stated in explanatory memorandum.
The library now wants to focus on preserving collection for future generations. The archived tweets have not been publicly available. According to communication, y should be kept under wraps. It must first be decided how database can be made accessible at low cost. So far re is no timetable for this decision.
According to his own information, library wants to continue to buy Twitter messages from 2018 “on a very selective basis”. The tweets are to be collected and archived in future matically and event-related, for example to elections or to important laws. The US Congress Library is largest library in world.
