RT (formerly Russia Today) and Sputnik could continue to remain Twitter users, stressed Internet group. In recent years, amounts paid by two media for advertising are to be donated for independent research on Twitter usage.
RT is a television channel directed at viewers outside Russia and financed by Russian state. Sputnik is a news portal that also directs its content to users outside of Russia, and 2014 was founded by a state-owned media company. RT and Sputnik have been criticized for years to make propaganda about ir channels especially for Kremlin. They mselves, however, insist on ir independence.
RT Editor-in-chief Margarita Simonjan criticized decision of Twitter as “highly regrettable”. She also raised serious accusations against US company: “I never thought Twitter was controlled by US intelligence services. But now Twitter has admitted it himself. ” Simonjan warned that US media are now likely to feel retaliation in Russia.
